School Improvement

School improvement refers to how schools can make an even better learning experience for pupils and improve the environment to help teachers do their job. School improvement isn’t just developing one area of a school with a single objective; time and effort go into identifying areas of improvement needed for a school to progress, and then research is done to target these areas. Once a plan is drafted; a school deploys resources and staff to carry out its plan. It is then consistently evaluated and analysed to ensure progress is made.

Three School Improvement Strategies:
Work as a team – empower your team to get involved in your school improvement, and go from hero to leader by distributing priorities to your team. Everyone will have a role to play in your school improvement; ensure you utilise your middle leaders, subject leaders, teachers and support staff.

Monitor your school improvement – school improvement isn’t identifying one thing that is wrong, putting things in to target these areas and then never revisiting the objective again. Your school improvement will need to be continuously monitored to ensure it is making progress.

Research, research, research – no school improvement is created on the spot; time and effort are needed for research before any plan is drafted. Once you have gathered your research, you can evaluate and analyse it to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your school. Use our self-evaluation forms to begin your research.
